Priorities

As a life-long Democrat, I personally support smart, progressive, and socially conscious issues that improve everyone’s lives. Pursuing those goals in a measured, reasonable and cooperative way, when we can, is good citizenship. Fighting for what’s right and getting there through advocacy and persuasion is often necessary. Here’s a short list of my top 3 priorities:

Public Safety & Gun Control

Keeping our streets safe, resolving this present ICE crackdown, and finding new approaches to solve the long-fought gun control issues are important priorities. Keeping, recruiting, and properly training good, law-abiding police officers and federal agents is key. Supporting good ones who are doing their jobs well is very important. Cracking down and using the laws to hold officers or governmental agencies accountable for improper acts or harming our citizens and violating their legal rights is of the utmost importance. I have professional experience doing just that.

And we must keep creating and moving reasonable gun control legislation through, to protect us all. I’m willing to keep fighting for good laws, and drafting new ones, to keep us all safe. I have successfully tried a lawsuit involving an illegal gun purchase, which led to severe, life-changing injuries for my client.  Making a financial recovery for her, and personally interviewing her assailant in prison during my investigation, gave me great insight into how we can and should shift the cost of gun violence to the causes of misused or illegally-obtained firearms.

Fair and helpful economic issues

We must address affordability in smart ways. I want to help secure affordable health care, affordable housing, affordable childcare, and work to improve the overall affordability of all our essential daily needs & expenses.

In this area, it’s also important to get to the bottom of recent fraud and taxpayer abuse problems, but in smart ways. No one wants fraud or the harm it causes. But it can’t be solved by blaming entire immigrant communities or cutting off essential benefits in a blanket approach, punishing the people or families who need them, instead of the offenders. I have litigated fraud claims for decades and even confronted and solved this type of problem in one of my past volunteer leadership roles.

Environmental issues

We only have one planet, and we must protect it to keep it! Global warming is real, and it’s getting worse. Renewable energy must continue to be pursued and implemented. Building smart, affordable and capable infrastructure to sustain new, clean, positive programs is just as important. Our new AI pursuits demand substantially more energy, and natural resources, like water. We need to keep being creative, and think entrepreneurially, to supplement our expanding need for energy sources. It must be pursued intelligently, and as economically sound as possible, for our future and our children’s and grandchildren’s futures.

But most importantly, I want to learn more about what is important to you, so that I fight for you as I believe a legislator should; truly representing YOU, advocating for the issues  you say are important to our community, and working hard for them as your state senator.

I look forward to hearing from you, so that WE can keep our democracy strong, fight the good fights and improve our lives with good DFL, socially beneficial, principles!
